On Friday, Pryers will be attending the Wilberforce Trust’s Sportsperson’s Dinner, at the LNER Community Stadium. But who are the Wilberforce Trust and what do they do?
About The Wilberforce Trust
Based in York, the Wilberforce Trust have been supporting people with visual and sensory impairments since 1833.
They aim to help people living with sensory impairments and/or other disabilities, to navigate obstacles that society can bring. They do his by offering:
- Supported living services – to empower people with sensory impairments and/or other disabilities to live in their own home
- Supported living – to help people with sensory impairments and/or other disabilities to carry out everyday activities as independently as possible
- Sensory services – such as advice, guidance and equipment to improve the lives and reduce the risk to those living with sensory loss
- Living and Learning and Zone – a community facility within the Wilberforce headquarters, which provides activities and courses to tenants, and people from other support organisations.
The Wilberforce Trust Sportsperson’s Dinner
The Sportsperson’s Dinner is a fundraising event, in aid of Club Wilber. The event, which is being held at the LNER Community Stadium, will offer attendees the opportunity to meet inspirational athletes, who have proved that sight loss does not have to prevent a successful sporting career.
There will be three guest speakers at this year’s event:
- Will Jubb, a rugby player for York City Knights
- Antonia Bunyan, a team GB Goalball player
- Nigel Limb, an ambassador for the Wilberforce Trust who lost his vision – and almost his life – in a motorbike speed racing accident in 2015
You can watch Nigel’s story below. Please note that there is footage of Nigel’s incident at the start of the video which some people may find distressing.
We are proud to be supporting The Wilberforce Trust and are looking forward to hearing inspirational stories at the dinner.
How Pryers help people with sensory impairments
As medical negligence solicitors we regularly help people who are living with a physical and sensory impairments. Often, the people we help have acquired their impairment as a result of a medical mistake. This was sadly the case with Frank, a former-client who lost his vision due to a delay in diagnosing an eye infection, leading him to lose the vision in his right eye.
Like many others who suffer sensory loss, after his injury Frank struggled; he found it hard to work and subsequently battled with depression. You can read Frank’s story here.
It is through our work with people like Frank, that we have developed a profound respect for the tenacity of people who are able to overcome lifechanging injuries. Through our work, we have seen the struggles and difficulties that people go through, and this is why we are proud to help wherever we can.
If you’ve suffered an injury that you think was caused as a result of somebody else’s negligence, contact us to find out how we can help. Our legal team will advise you for free, on whether we can help you make a no win no fee claim. Please call us on .
